Perinatal/Postpartum therapy in NYC & Westchester

Compassionate support through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum year

Pregnancy is a time of profound change–physically, emotionally, and relationally. Alongside the joy and anticipation, it’s also common to experience anxiety, mood shifts, and the resurfacing of past traumas. At Dr. Inzinna Psychological Services, we provide perinatal therapy to support individuals and families through pregnancy, birth, and the transition into parenthood. Pregnancy and the first year after birth are times of profound change — physically, emotionally, and relationally. Alongside joy and anticipation, it’s common to experience anxiety, mood shifts, or the resurfacing of past traumas. At Dr. Inzinna Psychological Services, we provide perinatal therapy to support individuals and families through pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood.

What Is Perinatal Mental Health?

The perinatal period covers pregnancy through the first year postpartum. During this time, many people experience emotional challenges such as:

  • Anxiety and excessive worry
  • Depression or mood changes
  • Birth trauma
  • Pregnancy loss or medically complex pregnancy
  • Relationship strain and challenges adjusting to parenthood

These struggles are common and treatable, and seeking help is a sign of strength.

Therapy During Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings unique emotional shifts. Therapy can help you:

  • Develop skills to reduce stress, worry, and intrusive thoughts
  • Process loss, trauma, and/or difficult pregnancy experiences
  • Build coping strategies for mood and anxiety
  • Prepare emotionally for birth and parenthood
  • Strengthen relationships with your partner and/or support network

Postpartum Therapy

It’s typical to experience the “baby blues” in the first days after childbirth. However, when feelings of sadness, fear, or exhaustion persist beyond 2 weeks, it may be a sign of a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder (PMAD). These are common, affecting 1 in 7 mothers, and they are highly treatable.

Common mental health struggles in the postpartum period include:

  • Postpartum depression (persistent sadness, hopelessness, or guilt)
  • Postpartum anxiety (racing thoughts, panic, excessive worry)
  • Postpartum OCD (intrusive thoughts/compulsions related to baby)
  • Birth trauma
  • Challenges adjusting to new roles and responsibilities
  • Relationship difficulties

Maternal Mental Health Matters

Perinatal therapy at our practice provides a safe, compassionate space to:

  • Understand and normalize your experience
  • Process loss, trauma, or difficult birth experiences
  • Build resilience and coping skills for a variety of challenges
  • Support bonding with your baby
  • Improve sleep, mood, and daily functioning
  • Strengthen your relationship with your partner and/or support network
  • Navigate the transition back to work or daily routines

Our Approach

We combine psychodynamic psychotherapy with skills-based interventions through a trauma-informed lens. This means we don’t just treat symptoms — we also explore the deeper emotional shifts of pregnancy and parenthood, helping you strengthen resilience for the long term.

Therapy is:

  • Compassionate — a warm, supportive, non-judgmental space
  • Collaborative — tailored to your unique needs and goals
  •  Trauma-informed — sensitive to life experiences that shape the transition into parenthood
  • Flexible — available in-person or via telehealth, with short-term or ongoing options
